Why take the leap and change what has been? I did. I didn’t change or add services, just the name. But that is a pretty big change when everyone has connected you with a business name for over a year. MelCMarketing needed to be changed because my services were never limited to just marketing, but my business name screamed MARKETING!
I was faced with mixed views on my new business name, Cloversy. Why pick that name? What does it mean? Is that even a word? Those are the most asked questions I get from friends and colleagues. I felt defensive when asked those questions, because I had spent a lot of time in researching names and felt proud of what I had created. It was nothing I had ever heard before (which could have been bad), it was easy to remember, catchy enough for people to want to know more behind the name, Cloversy.
“About the time I came up with Cloversy, I put together my tag line. Which I feel ties it all together, the business brand and meaning. Cloversy, “Do what you do best, outsource the rest”. I just love saying the whole kit and caboodle!”
Novanym wrote a great article “10 GREAT BUSINESS NAMES THAT STARTED OUT MEANINGLESS” where it talks about a meaningless business name. As a naming specialist, Novanym stands behind a meaningless business names. Over time the meaningless name will come to mean something, as the business grows and becomes more successful. Just because it feels safer to go with a name that screams, say Marketing, doesn’t mean you have to go with an understandable name or one that can be found in the dictionary.
The article goes on to share some pretty big successful businesses that had the confidence to make-up their name. Haagen-Dazs, ice cream anyone? Xerox, they added the ‘x’ for techy glitz (who would have thought techy and glitz would be in the same thought). Kodak, say cheese! Sony, can you hear me? These are some of my Favorites, Google and Ikea!! – Novanym
